Gyanta előkezelés
Az ipari minőségű gyanták mind inert oldószereket tartalmaznak, ezért az alkalmazás igényeitől függően különböző mértékben kell előkezelni őket: az extraktorban 10-20 cm etanolt kell adni a gyantaréteg fölé, és 3-4 órán át áztatni, majd az áztatóoldatot le kell önteni. Az extrakcióhoz ugyanazt a módszert alkalmazzuk, ismételt mosással, amíg a kivezető nyílás el nem veszi az áztatóoldatot, majd háromszoros mennyiségű vizet kell a kémcsőbe önteni, amíg az már nem zavaros. Ezután alaposan öblítsük le tiszta vízzel, amíg az etanol szaga már nem érezhető, ezután általános használatra is felhasználható.
Fokozott regeneráció:
Ha a gyantát egy bizonyos ideig normálisan használják, az adszorpciós kapacitás csökken, vagy akut szennyezés lép fel, akkor a regenerációs kezelést fokozni kell. A módszer a következő: 3-5%-os sósavoldatot adnak a gyantaréteg fölé 10-20 cm-rel, és 2-4 órán át áztatják. Ugyanekkora koncentrációjú, 5-7-szeres sósavoldattal öblítik le, majd alaposan öblítik tiszta vízzel, amíg a kifolyó mosóoldat pH-értéke semleges nem lesz, majd a fenti módszer szerint 5%-os nátrium-hidroxid oldatban áztatják 2-4 órán át, és ugyanazt a módszert alkalmazzák: öblítik, amíg 5-7-szeres nátrium-hidroxid oldatot nem vezetnek át rajta, majd alaposan öblítik vízzel, amíg a szennyvíz pH-értéke semleges nem lesz, majd újra felhasználhatók.
